During the last days of February, the UPLB Thespian Circle staged the Shakespearean play MacBeth (Makbet) as interpreted by Rolando S. Tinio. Featured in the play was none other than UPLB Delta Pi Omicron’s current Lady Tyler, Kristine ‘Kweng’ Domondon.
Makbet charts the bloody rise to power and tragic downfall of the warrior Makbet. A successful warrior in the army of then Queen Duncan, Makbet is informed by the Three Witches that he is to become king. As part of that same prophecy, the Witches also predict that the future heads of Eskosya will be descended not from Makbet but rather from his fellow army captain, Banquo. Although he was initially waiting for Fate to take its course, Makbet is stung by ambition and confusion when Queen Duncan nominates her son Malcolm as her heir.
A story of ambition, murder and revenge, Makbet compels the viewer into interest and suspense as all the pieces fall into place.
Although given no specific name and was seen more as part of the chorus, Lady Kweng played the pivotal role of one of the Witches who predict the rise and fall of the main character Makbet.
Lady Kweng is an incoming fourth year student of BS Food Technology. As a student in high school, she has also appeared in the stagings of Noli Me Tangere, El Filibusterismo, Breaktime, Sugo ng Kahapon and New Yorker sa Tondo. A true lover of the arts, Lady Kweng is fond of singing and dancing; writes poems and short stories and loves Harry Potter because she wants to be a witch. I guess her fantasy has been fulfilled by joining the cast of Makbet. Lady Kweng was a beloved member of the cast and crew, befriending all.

The Delta Pi Omicron Sorority, in cooperation with Universal Robina Corporation (URC) and MarKonsult Incorporated, held the C2 Love event last February 11-22, 2008. The 2-week event was a marketing campaign held to determine the popularity of the green tea drink C2. The mechanics of the event was that, in exchange for buying 3 specially marked bottles of C2 at UPLB”s Student Union Canteen, prizes such as pillows, pens, love cards and balloons can be won.
During the dates of February 13 and 14, consumers also had the chance to win a bouquet of roses as well as get a serenade from members of the sorority. Among those who won a bouquet was our very own adviser, Professor Erlinda Dizon, who was also serenaded by members of the sorority. Other notable campus personalities who were serenaded, or availed of the serenading services, were Office of Student Affairs (OSA) director Dr. Severino Cuevas and OSA Head of Counseling and Testing Division Dr. Erick Vernon Dy.
In exchange of the sorority’s services for the event, URC has given a cash donation which will be used as a sponsorship for one of the sorority’s activities. UPLB also received a cash donation to the school’s emergency funds.

The Delta Pi Omicron Sorority’s mother chapter in UP Diliman, with partner EMC Fraternity, took over the final night of the FebFair, Saturday February 16, 2008, to bring us euFAIRia – a concert featuring the hottest artists in the Filipino music industry today. Over 40 bands performed that night starting at 6PM and the party went on until 6AM Sunday morning.
The endeavor wasn’t solely manned by the sisses of the Alpha Chapter but brods and sisses, both residents and alumni, from other chapters, UPLB, TSU, CLSU and many more, also joined in on the fun. Adding to the proud Omicron spirit were alumni that actually participated in the actual concert. One member of Datu’s Tribe and formerly of the now defunct band Eraserheads, Marcus Adoro, lit up the night for the over 5,000-strong crowd.
Apart from alumni and residents, some royal blood also got in on the action, as a member of the band Giniling Festival happens to be the son of an alumni of the Pi Omicron Fraternity and an alumni our beloved Delta Pi Omicron Sorority. It just goes to show the greatness running through an Omicron.

The venue may be at the University of the Philippines at Diliman but the whole UP system joined in celebrating the UP centennial kick-off held last Jan 8, 2008. The delegation from UP Los Baños was second in terms of number of attendees. Participants were composed of faculty members, employees, and students especially student organizations. The Delta Pi Omicron Sorority and the Pi Omicron Fraternity were among the organizations who participated in the said event.
The theme of the event was “Excellence, Leadership, and Service in the Next 100 years”. A program and mass were held in the morning at UP Manila, the birthplace of UP. Next was the parade around the Oblation plaza with participation from the whole UP system, followed shortly by a program. There was a dance performance from “Oble” and an exhibition by the Philippine Air Force’s skydivers. One of the highlights was the lighting of 100 torches headed by a Civil Engineering alumnus from UP Manila whose age was the same as that of the university.
Known personalities such as Ryan Cayabyab, Richard Gomez, Cheche Lazaro, Mikaela Fudolig, outstanding UP alumni, professors, student representatives and former UP presidents also participated in the said event. President Emerlinda Roman ignited the centennial cauldron and explained the significance of the torch lighting which symbolizes the 100 years of UP. Performances from different talents from different UP units ensued at UP Amphitheatre. Among those who performed were the UP Pep Squad, Ryan Cayabyab, UPLB Chorale Ensemble, and the Philippine Madrigal Singers.
The event was capped off by a 15 minute fireworks display. But the UP centennial celebration doesn’t stop there. A series of events in different campuses are scheduled to take place within the year and is expected to end on December 8, 2008.

The Delta Pi Omicron Sorority, in cooperation with Universal Robina Corporation (URC), is proud to present “C2 Love”, a data gathering and marketing project which will take place on February 11-22, 2007.
The project aims to gather the statistics pertaining to the popularity of the green tea beverage C2. Specially marked C2 bottles will be distributed at the university’s Student Union (SU) building’s concession stands. If a buyer collects a total of 3 bottles with the special marking, the bottles can then be brought to the URC redemption booth located at SU in exchange for a prize. During February 13-14, an alternate prize of a serenade, as sung by members of the sorority, can be chosen. 30 serenades are to be performed with 10 including a bouquet of flowers.
Apart from the publicity from tying up with a big corporation, the sorority will also be presented with a check of PHP 15,000 once the project is completed.

Our beloved Sis Nikki Anne C. Estrada topped the 2005 Geologist Licensure Examination that was given in August. Sis Nikki was Number 1 amongst the 39 (out of 50) who passed the licensure examination. She will be inducted as a new geologist during a program by the Geological Society of the Philippines on September 15 at The Legend Hotel along Pioneer Street in Mandaluyong City. However, because she has not reached the legal age of 21, Sis Nikki will not be allowed to get her Professional Geologist I.D. until next year. To our knowledge, Sis Nikki is the first Delta Pi Omicron geologist. She joins a growing list of geologist-brods, that includes, among others, George Bacuta, Chet Medina, Garo Tabanda, Peter Alip, Paul Azarcon, Roger Velasco, Arsi Cumigad, John Corotan, Glenn Golla, plus a number of B.S. (Geology) undergraduate resident brods. – courtesy of the UP Pi Omicron Fraternity Diliman Chapter
